Enduro, adventure motorcycles and travels

March 2024 Moto Recap

In March I found time for few enduro rides. We don’t really have gravel roads here but dirt roads, and it’s still a muddy season in Poland now, so in some moments it was challenging.

The first ride was close to my place. I spent a few hours there: I practiced on a short enduro loop, did some log crossing drills, and then took a muddy “singletrack”. It was fun to get back on the bike after short break.

The second ride was a few hours trip, where I took an off-road route west of Wrocław, in direction of Środa Śląska. It was a beautiful day, but I didn’t prepare well for the trip and had a few setbacks… First, I didn’t start with the iPhone fully charged, and as Osmand was draining the battery rapidly, it worked for less than an hour. When it almost died, I stopped the motorcycle and started checking the phone charger, motorcycle battery, and wiring to see why my wireless charger didn’t work, only to realize I didn’t have a wireless charger 😀 I didn’t have a cable, so I changed the route slightly to visit Środa Śląsk to buy a new one. Then, when I fixed the navigation and charging, I got the fuel reserve light on. I continued the route, thinking I should have enough fuel to make it to the gas station. It was enough, but I don’t recommend riding on a KTM enduro bike when you run out of gas – it loses power, jerks, and occasionally stops.

Note to future self: always prepare as if you are going on a long trip.

The third one was a proper day ride with people from the Wrocław enduro group. It was about 140km off-road route and 20km to the meeting place each way.

We started with a short warm-up on the old military compound. Then, during the ride, we visited an archaeological site in Trzebnica with the oldest evidence of humans found in Poland – it was Homo Erectus, but still counts. We stopped at two old cemeteries and two old enduro loops and almost stopped at one old abandoned palace. It was a nice and smooth ride, with good weather and route conditions. Photos don’t show that as we’ve got Kalima in Poland those days, so the sky was a bit yellow-ish.
