Enduro, adventure motorcycles and travels

December 2024 Moto Recap

There is an adage saying there is no bad weather, only bad clothes. I followed the advice and tried wearing my three-layer adventure set for a half-day ride in winter conditions. It worked fine!

I used a chilling but sunny Sunday to ride to El Escorial Monastery, one of the largest religious buildings in the world and the biggest Renaissance building in the world. The royal palace, church, monastery, burial place, and college. I didn’t have time to visit the interiors, but it was still worth viewing from different angles from outside. The building is massive and looks impressive.

My three-layer Rev’It set let me cope with the low temperature, around five degrees Celsius when I left home in the morning, as low as three in the mountains, and around ten in El Escorial. I only felt slightly cold in my hands, head, and feet. The heated grips helped me surmount the hand problem. I could use a balaclava with a membrane to make my head warmer, but I’m unsure how to improve my boots, which already have a membrane.

Later in the month, I bought a new battery for my enduro bike because the previous one died again. I forgot to charge it the last few months, so I needed to face the music. To give it a final test, I took it for a casual ride around the town, and it proved to work steadily.

View at Madrid. Yes, those buildings in the top left are Cuatro Torres.

The funniest and a bit audacious ride was the one during Christmas break. I spent half the day getting around the wilderness, heading towards the mountains. I could not finish the route but returned safely, counting this ride as good training.
