This March was not the most fantastic time for motorcycle rides in the central part of Spain. This month, there was a historical record rainfall, which Spaniards had not seen in 130 years since they started collecting data in 1983!
Looking through the window at the rainy town, I could still do some online shopping. I’ve bought new proper knobby tires—the Mitas Tire Enduro Trail-XT+. It’s advertised as 80% off-road and 20% asphalt tire, probably the most off-road-oriented tire that is still street legal you could use for DesertX without profound changes to wheels. It’s worth adding that Chris Birch also uses it.

Still with new tires waiting in the garage, I found a window of weather and time for an enduro ride in the vicinity. My main goal was to test a route I had recently devised. It would take me from the Madrid area to TET Alto Tajo, avoiding too much travel on asphalt roads.
So far, it hasn’t worked out too well. All the fords in the area were closed or impassable. Many gravel roads had become enduro tracks, with one-meter deep ruts. Having OEM Pirelli tires wasn’t adding to confidence.
I was only able to check the very beginning part of the route, and I may need to do it again in a few weeks.
